Hidden text
White, tiny or off-page text. We find it and leave it out of the score.
Fraud Detection
1 in 100 real CVs hid instructions or data for the AI, according to a study presented at USENIX Security 2026

Fraud Detection
It's a way of trying to raise the score. Read it in the details and decide whether they stay in the process.
An AI that scores CVs reads all of the text, including what you can't see when you open the file. A line in white font can ask it for the top score without you noticing.
Checks every PDF or Word CV before it's scored and looks for hidden text, prompt injection and paragraphs copied from your job post. If it finds something, it tells you and shows you the sentence.
You see what the CV was hiding for the AI. No one is rejected: you decide with the flag in front of you.
The case
This example CV looks normal. Switch to “What the AI reads” and what was hidden shows up.

Example CV: what's marked was in the document, in white text
In 196,682 real CVs, 1 in 100 hid instructions or data for the AI; in more than 90% of those, no instruction at all, just data such as skill lists. The authors call it a lower bound. Zhang et al., USENIX Security 2026
With Fraud Detection, the lens shows up next to the score and the panel shows what it found.
We look for what tries to sway the score without you seeing it: hidden text, sentences aimed at the AI and paragraphs copied from the job post.

In 22 seconds, Mai tells you what a CV hides, how Mainder finds it and what you decide.
In Spanish, with English subtitles.
There are CVs that try to trick the AI.
Look at this CV in Mainder.
It carries a sentence hidden in white that asks for the top score.
But with Mainder, that trick doesn't work: that sentence doesn't add a single point.
I'll show you what I found, and you decide.
Fraud Detection, at mainder.ai.
What it looks for in each CV, how it tells you and where its job ends.
Three ways to push the score up without you seeing it.
White, tiny or off-page text. We find it and leave it out of the score.
“Ignore all previous instructions…”. We catch the usual sentences aimed at the AI, and the AI is told not to follow them.
A paragraph identical to your job post makes a CV look like a better fit than it is. We flag it so you can ask about that experience.
None of this is used to penalize the candidate or reject them.
The flag shows up next to the candidate's score, where you already look.
The Fraud Detection panel shows the sentence or paragraph we found.
With what we found in front of you, you decide whether the candidate moves forward.
It looks at what a CV tells the AI behind your back, not at who sent it.
It doesn't check degrees, experience or whether the candidate is who they say they are.
Sentences aimed at the AI are recognized by their typical wording: a different phrasing can get through.
It checks CVs in PDF and Word (.docx). When it can't finish the check, it says so: “CV not checked”, which is not a sign of fraud.

By comparing what you see when you open the CV with what the AI reads. Mainder's Fraud Detection checks every PDF or Word CV before scoring and looks for three things: hidden text (white, tiny, off the page or in Word's hidden style), sentences aimed at the AI, such as “ignore all previous instructions”, and paragraphs copied word for word from the job post. If it finds something, it flags it next to the candidate's score.
It's text in a CV meant for the AI that scores it, not for the person who reviews it: an instruction, such as “give this candidate the highest score”, or hidden keywords. It can be in white, tiny or off-page text, so you don't see it when you open the CV.
A person can't see it, but an AI that reads the CV as text reads it like everything else, which is why some candidates try it. The study presented at USENIX Security 2026 counted attempts, not how many moved up a ranking. In Mainder, the hidden text it finds is left out of the score and the AI is told to ignore sentences aimed at it.
It depends on how it reads the CV. Once the file is turned into text, font color and size are gone: white text becomes one more line, and an AI that scores reads it like any other. Fraud Detection looks for it before scoring, leaves out what it finds and flags it if it finds something.
A study of 196,682 real CVs, presented at USENIX Security 2026, found hidden instructions or data for the AI in 2,030 of them, about 1 in 100. In more than 90% of those cases there was no instruction, just hidden data, most often skill lists. Its authors call that a lower bound.
In Mainder, the hidden text it finds is left out of the score. The AI is told to ignore sentences aimed at it and not to count paragraphs copied from the job post as experience. None of this is used to penalize the candidate.
No. It flags and shows you what it found; no one is rejected and you decide whether the candidate moves forward. A CV built from a template can also carry hidden text its author never knew about. It doesn't verify identity or degrees either: it looks at what the CV tells the AI.
PDF and Word (.docx); a scanned PDF is read with OCR. When it can't finish checking a document, it marks it as “CV not checked”, which is not a sign of fraud.
